Our Vision: A Heart of Prayer in the Mediterranean
Mare Nostrum aims to be a gathering point and a source of encouragement for Houses of Prayer (HOPs) across the Mediterranean Basin. We believe that God creates every person in His image and bestows upon them a unique, intrinsic worth. We gather a community of Christians, ministries, intercessors, and worshipers where everyone is valued, respected, and encouraged to contribute to God’s purpose for the Mediterranean nations and for Israel.
Our approach is strictly relational and non-institutional: we seek neither to build a federation nor to impose a structure. Each House of Prayer retains complete independence or its affiliation with its own network.
Our core mission centers on three concrete actions:
- Organizing an annual gathering to fellowship and seek the face of the Lord together.
- Visiting and encouraging local HOPs by joining their prayer watches on the ground for a few days or weeks.
- Fostering connections and synergies among the various Houses of Prayer to cultivate a true vision of unity throughout the Mediterranean.
We love and honor every human being without distinction of race, nationality, religion, or gender, grounded in the great commandments of Christ: to love God with all our heart and to love our neighbor as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-38; John 13:34).
Our Spiritual & Biblical Stance
Our understanding of the issues in the Middle East and the Mediterranean Basin is rooted exclusively in the Word of God — in its historical and prophetic scope — beyond any political or humanistic considerations.
The thread guiding our actions rests upon biblical truth:
- The Choice of Israel: God chose Israel to be a source of blessing to all the families of the earth (Genesis 12:2-3).
- The Covenant and the Land: He established an everlasting covenant with Israel and gave them a land as an everlasting possession (Genesis 17:7-8).
- The Gathering: God committed to bringing His people back from all the nations to their land (Ezekiel 36:24).
- Love for All Nations: God’s love for Israel is not in opposition to His love for other peoples. He is preparing a shared and glorious blessing for the nations of the Middle East (Isaiah 19:24-26) and to the ends of the earth (Isaiah 24:14-15).
Mare Nostrum’s 4 Pillars of Action
All individuals and organizations partnering with Mare Nostrum share four foundational principles:
- Serving the Presence of God (Worship & Intercession): Raising continual worship to the Lord and interceding for the region.
- Valuing the Individual: Honoring the worth, gifts, and calling of everyone, while supportively guiding each person in their spiritual growth.
- Serving and Building Connections Among HOPs: Encouraging the Body of Christ through visits, fellowship, and reformational teaching to live out the Gospel in an authentic, community-minded way.
- Restoring the Vision for Israel & Aliyah: Aligned with God’s plan, we work to restore the spiritual vision for Israel and to prepare the Mediterranean region to facilitate the return (Aliyah) of the Jewish people.
Our Culture: Love in Action
Inspired by the biblical definition of love (1 Corinthians 13) and the fruit of the Spirit, we ensure that all our interactions are bathed in an atmosphere of kindness, patience, peace, truth, forgiveness, and faithfulness.
